APRIL: BUILDING RESILIENCE

April 13th, 6pm - 7pm: Building Resilience In Healthcare*

Resilience is now understood in psychology as being something that is learnt. We are not born with resilience. We have studied the traits of resilience, and we can now teach these in a way that can be adopted by everyone. Resilience is correlated with happiness and wellbeing, and this workshop explores how we can become more resilient in the face of difficulty.

This workshop answers the following questions:

  • What is resilience?
  • Are we born being resilient, or is resilience learnt?
  • What makes up a resilient individual?
  • What are the underlying mechanisms behind resilience?
  • How can we adopt these traits?
  • How can I take short practical steps to make this work for me?

We all experience stress from time to time, and actually the research shows that a lot of stress actually falls beneath our conscious awareness. Mindfulness has a huge amount of evidence-base, and is especially helpful in managing stress, but it is often overlooked at the time we need it most. This workshop addresses how we can use the latest science from mindfulness to reduce and manage stress.

  • How can we understand and manage stress?
  • What's the neuroscience behind stress?
  • Where does mindfulness come in?
  • Practical ways to manage stress using micro-mindfulness techniques

We get into healthcare because we want to support others. But this can leave us feeling burntout. We often don't get any training on burnout, what it is, or how to prevent or manage it. This workshop addresses those gaps in practical and evidence-based ways.

  • How is burnout now understood in psychology?
  • What is compassion fatigue?
  • What is vicarious trauma?
  • How can we prevent burnout in healthcare?

OCTOBER: BUILDING CONFIDENCE

October 6th, 6pm - 7pm: When Your Confidence Doesn't Match Your Competence

More often than not our competence in our roles at work is actually higher than our confidence. This mismatch can lead to something we call 'Imposter Syndrome'. This discomfort can hold us back and even effect us in our roles, undermining our skill set. This can all be rectified using a few tools and techniques from psychology.

This workshop addresses the following points:

  • Why does it sometimes take a while for our confidence to catch up with us?
  • What is Imposter syndrome, and how can we change it?
  • Working with self-doubt
